Work is currently underway, courtesy of Prostate Cancer UK (PCUK) and RCR, in changing the prostate cancer pathway to include mpMRI before biopsy. The PROMIS group recently demonstrated how this technique improved the detection of clinically significant cancer as well as negated the need for a prostate biopsy in up to 27% of patients. As it stands, only a third of patients eligible for this service are benefitting from it.
You can sign up to receive the CCG commissioning checklist to see which criteria the PCUK expert clinical group think should be in place in order to deliver the best outcomes for men. PCUK is looking to deliver bespoke training on mpMRI delivered in conjunction with the Royal College of Radiologists – watch this space.
